California's Native Grasslands

Workshop Recap: California's New Front Yard: Creating a Low-Water Landscape

October 1, 2015

Fairfield Community Center

This workshop was a great success! Morning presentations on landscape design, plant selection, lawn removal, and irrigation best practices were followed by afternoon demonstrations on the same topics. We had a sold out crowd of 115 attendees and a very positive response on the course evaluations. Instructors: Sarah Sutton, Landscape Architect and Author of The New American Front Yard: Kiss Your Grass Goodbye (landscape design presentation); Emily Allen, Sales Manager at Hedgerow Farms (plant selection); Miles DaPrato, Restoration Project Manager at the Solano Resource Conservation District (lawn removal); and Matt Forrest, Irrigation Supervisor at the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden Grounds and Landscape Services (irrigation best practices). Andrew Fulks, Assistant Director at the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden, provided our introduction and moderated the event.
