Soils are a plant’s best friend! Build your skills with soil scientist Vic Claassen

  • Understand California’s grassland soil ecology
  • Learn contributing aspects of soil function including: hydrology, infiltration and moisture retention, soil nutrients and microbial activity.
  • Introduction to different soil analytical methods and potential treatments.

The morning classroom session will be followed by an afternoon in the field looking at different soil structures at Russell Ranch, UCD Putah Creek Riparian  Reserve. 

  • Morning coffee and snacks are included.
  • Please bring a sack lunch, water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and sturdy shoes.
  • Directions will be sent to registered attendees.
